You know, I could've posted the picture of Doom as Santa Claus from the Christmas issue of What The?!, but I've done that for 10 years, so I thought that a picture of another villain that strikes fear into the hearts of children everywhere would suffice.

Pictures of the new 3.75in Secret Wars Doctor Doom and Absorbing Man 2-pack are surfacing. Sadly not in my collection room, but the way the original packs were in abundance, I'm sure I'll snag one sooner or later. Anyways, the Doom figure looks good. Much better than the Superhero Showdown figure from a few years ago. I'll have to wait until I get my hands on one to make the final judgment, but the other Marvel Universe figures I have have been pretty good thus far and I look forward to having a Doom that can pimp slap Darth Vader and Cobra Commander for being sissies.

There was a time in the not so distant past when I was unable to partake in all the Doom goodness being produced. Call it vanity, call it naivete, but at the time I thought that a higher education and eating on a daily basis was a priority. Sure, I look back on those times and think, What was I thinking? I missed out on the coolest Statue of Doctor Doom ever produced just because I wanted to survive and possibly secure a job that paid more than back rubs. Now I do have a job that pays well, but just as I couldn't afford the amount for the Doom Premium Format Figure when I was eating Ramen Noodles for every meal, the price has inflated to where I can't justify dropping over a grand on it now. Life has a way of punishing you in small ways. But just like a dog you catch eating it own crap, life is always there to lick you in the face afterward... wait, does that analogy even work? Anyways, in a recent Q&A, a fan asks Sideshow what we've all been dieing to know.

I missed out on the fantastic Dr. Doom Premium Format which was released a few years ago. Your Doom PF is the best rendition of the Marvel infamous villain! Are there any plans of making more Dr. Doom in other areas: Comiquette, VS Diorama, or even 1:1 Life-sized bust? The Monarch of Latveria needs more Sideshow love!

To which Sideshow replies...

Doom will return! Mere mortals cannot know when Doom will strike, or where, but Doom WILL return!

Get it? They kinda answered like Doom would've. Anyways, I can't until they reveal info on what the plans are. Of course this could be like the time Kotobukiya contacted me for info about Doom for an upcoming statue they were producing and then nothing was ever said again (true story).

CBR has some more Doomwar info. It's a good little interview with a few quotes that make it worth the read.

So maybe he's a tyrant and mass-murderer on top of all that; can't a guy make a few mistakes?

Also, did they mention Deadpool would be involved in Doomwar? Somehow between his 18 on going series's and six million appearances, he found the time to drop in on our little section of the Marvel U. That's pretty nice of him considering what they did to his character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Seriously, if they wrote a movie about John Wayne Bobbitt and instead of getting his penis chopped off he saved 20 orphans from a burning rainbow factory, it would still be a more accurate representation of source material than Deadpool in Wolverine. (ed. note: John Wayne Bobbitt? Where'd that joke come from? What is this, 1994?) (Amb. Curt note: When someone else get's their whacker chopped off, I'll update my analogy.) It's time for Marvel's greatest crossover event since their last one. Sure, Siege sounds like the title of a horrible Steven Seagal Movie [ed. note: Is there any other?]{Amb. Curt Note: What about Executive Decision?}[ed. note: Oh, Dude, I totally forgot about that one. It was awesome!]{Amb. Curt Note: I know, right! Remember when the terrorists turned out be Islamic?} {ed. note: Yeah, I never saw that coming. Where do they get these ideas?], but trust me it isn't, and CBR has proof. That's right, a one minute plus trailer reminding us of the last billion crossovers and how the Marvel heroes ain't seen nothin' yet. Buh-buh-buh-baby they just ain't seen nuh-nuh-nothin' yet. See what I did there? Anyways, can you read, but would rather have someone with a deep voice read for you? Well, this trailer is right up your alley.

The rocket scientists over at IGN have created their list of the 100 Greatest Comic Book Villains of all time. And guess who got number 1? You're right! It's Magneto. Wait, you have an IQ above 75 and thought it would be Doom? But Magneto makes so much sense. Sure, his ability is he moves metal things and he has been handled easily by even the most second rate of characters, but he is definitely number 1. I mean, there is no room to argue that. IGN even says

"Through [Magneto's] legendary role in Marvel Comics over the years as well as fantastic portrayals in film and animation, it's hard to argue that there has ever been a villain more complex, nuanced, sympathetic and yet irrevocably evil."

Did you hear that? "Film portrayals." He must be the number 1 Comic Book villain; he was in a good movie. Sure, Doctor Doom has owned his bucket head in the comics, but he was played by Gandalf. Oh well, so they got number 1 wrong, they must have just made a mistake and put the real number 1 at number 2, right? Well, if you thought Joker should be number 1, then I guess that would be a correct statement, but since you'd have to be a half-wit to think that, you should be as shocked as I am. But wait, what does Joker have that makes people remember just how evil he is?

"As his movie role last summer proved, he can even surpass one of the greatest heroes of all time."

Oh yeah, he was in a movie with a great script and with a great actor portraying him. Well, I guess if we were making a list of Greatest Villains in Movies Based on a Comic Book these first two might actually make sense. But I was under the impression it was Comic Book Villains. So, this leads me to my final conclusions; IGN is composed of morons, and Julian McMahon has ruined Dr. Doom for those same morons who apparently need a movie to justify a comic book villain's greatness.

Sure, I could write a review of Doctor Voodoo #1 for you, but what would be the point when Mania.com has already posted such a great one? I mean, it is a little scant on poop jokes and banter about 80's tv shows, but it gets the jobs done. I am actually a little relieved because when I think about the title Dr. VD, my mind becomes so cluttered with off color humor, it's not even funny... no pun intended. Besides, from the majority of the emails I receieve, many don't find my humor funny anyways. So by me taking the high road and linking this review, consider yourself rewarded, Mom.

Newsarama has an article up about Doom War. Sounds like Doom may finally get the credit he deserves as the villain who can carry an entire crossover.

"[I]n the upcoming Marvel miniseries Doomwar just announced at today’s Baltimore Retailer Summit, the Marvel U is out to get Doom. Long-time adversaries the Fantistic Four join the X-men, Deadpool, and the Wakandans T’Challa, Storm and the new Black Panther to take on Latveria’s supreme ruler. Although this has been a long time coming, recent events such as his involvement in the Cabal as well as the ravaging of Black Panther have put him at the top of a growing assemblage of heroes’ list."

Read more of the article here. The article also has another interview with Maberry. He seems to care a lot about Doom and has a grasp about how he should be written.

"I’ve always thought that Doom was Marvel’s most fascinating and dangerous villain. I used to write Doctor Doom stories when I was a kid, imagining plots and counterplots going on all the time, and that’s how I still see him. If he’s defeated by, say the FF or Thor or someone, then all that means is that one of his many wheels within wheels goes off the rail; but he always has a hundred other things spinning.

He’s a super genius, a sorcerer, and the head of state. I’m going to show some behind the scenes stuff, so we can see why he’s able to manage so many threats and plots all at the same time. He has a whole lot of very smart, very devious, and very dangerous people working for him.

Doom has done so much harm for so long that he’s created an army of enemies. At the same time he’s amassed quite an army of his own, and the collision will send shockwaves throughout the Marvel Universe. He also has awesome technology that blends machinery with sorcery. I’m going to explore that in Doomwar. We’ll see some very nasty new toys from the Doom arsenal."

Hopefully this story will be one that lives up to the hype. As Doom fans, you know that is not always the case. Doom, as of the last few years, has been like the Rodney Dangerfield of Marvel; No Respect.

Okay, so Marvel is killing me with all these mini-series and I refuse to take it anymore... just playin'. With the announcement of the new Doom War mini-series, the time is ripe to contitune to throw all my hard earned money at Marvel. CBR has an exclusive interview with Jonathan Maberry to talk about Doom War and hopefully touch on the pronunciation of his name. Whoa, how did I get here? Oh yeah, now I remember. Turns out that blogging though an actual blog is much easier than posting info via my website. Sooooooo... this will be the new format for DNN. Hopefully this will allow me to post news more often and from many more places than the old style I had been hanging onto for so long. It's a change, but it's kinda like getting a new family. Sure, it's hard at first, but it turns out to be much easier without your annoying kids crying all the time, "Daddy, play catch with me... Daddy, I'm hungry... Daddy, why do you cry at night" Geez, just shut up.
